I'm flying to Colombo next month and plan to install the eSIM before I leave. Does the validity period start when I install it, when I connect to a network in Sri Lanka, or on a fixed date? I want to make sure I don't lose days before my trip.

For Sri Lanka, the plan validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a local network in Sri Lanka, not when you install it. So you can install it at home without losing any days.

I installed mine a week before my trip and it only activated once I landed and turned off airplane mode. Worked perfectly.

Just make sure you don't manually select a network before you arrive, as that can start the clock. I waited until I was in Colombo and it was fine.

To add: the validity is based on the first network connection in the destination country. If you have a layover elsewhere, it won't activate there.

I had a 12-hour layover in Dubai and was worried, but my Sri Lanka plan didn't start until I reached Colombo. No issues.

Mine started as soon as I connected in Sri Lanka, and I got a notification. The countdown was exactly 30 days from that moment.

If you're unsure, you can check the plan details in the app. It shows 'not activated' until you connect in Sri Lanka.

I activated mine at the airport in Sri Lanka and it worked instantly. The validity started then, so no wasted days.
