No internet after installing GotoeSIM in Italy — what am I missing?

I installed my GotoeSIM eSIM at home before flying to Rome and it shows as active in my settings, but I've had no data since landing. I've tried toggling airplane mode and restarting the phone twice with no luck. Is there a setting I need to change to get it working?

Check that mobile data is switched to the GotoeSIM line and that data roaming is turned on for that line — the plan relies on roaming partners in Italy, so it stays off until roaming is enabled. Also make sure the eSIM is set as the active line for data, not just for calls.

I hit the same thing in Florence and it turned out my phone had defaulted data back to my home SIM when I landed. Switching the data line to the eSIM fixed it in about ten seconds.

Worth manually selecting a network if automatic doesn't work. I picked a local carrier from the list and my data kicked in immediately.

If roaming and the data line are both correct, toggle airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then off, and give it a minute to register. If it still won't connect, check that the eSIM profile isn't paused or expired in the app and that you have an active plan attached to it.

Mine started working after I changed the APN settings — I'd accidentally left my old carrier's APN on the eSIM line. Setting it to the default one made the difference.

Sometimes it's just coverage in the moment. I had nothing at the airport but full bars once I got into the city center, so don't panic straight away.

Make sure you're not in a low data mode or have a content blocker running on that line. One of those was silently blocking me for an hour.

If nothing else works, deleting and reinstalling the eSIM did it for me. Just make sure you're on Wi-Fi when you do it so you can still activate.
